![]() It can be a new experience if you’re accustomed to e-bikes with mid-drive-only or rear hub-only electric motors. With the Grizzly’s two motors activated, both grab hard for traction when you twist the throttle. Manufacturers usually mount hub-drive e-bike motors on the back wheel. I tested the Grizzly with both front and rear motors activated because that’s how most buyers will use it. A red rocker switch on the left side of the handlebar selects the front motor only, rear motor only, or both. Compare that to the 500W continuous and 750W motors on many common e-bikes, and the Grizzly’s power boost is clear. Each motor is rated for 1,000 watts continuous power and 1,850W peak power. Rather than settling for one Bafang 52-volt electric geared hub motor, the Grizzly has two, one on each wheel. The go-fast parts: dual by design Bruce Brown/Digital TrendsĪriel hits the Grizzly’s design goal by doubling up on the good stuff. The result is an e-bike that focuses on seriously fast fun. Ariel Rider categorizes the Grizzly as a scrambler e-bike built for on- and off-road adventures. ![]() However, the Ariel X Class 52V Grizzly’s primary purpose is high performance. As I mentioned in the recent Rad Power Bikes RadRunner 3 Plus review, fast acceleration and high speeds aren’t the priority in e-bikes designed for versatility, where the goal is carrying young passengers or commuting. So you can use it really as a replacement for your car.The Ariel Grizzly frankly isn’t a great choice for everyone, especially beginners or riders who want convenient e-bike transportation, but don’t care about going faster than 20 miles per hour. Ariel Rider also has a rear rack which you can attach a platform or basket to carry large and heavy objects. I feel Grizzly is more suitable for tandem ride as the seat is longer and also it has foot pegs coming standard with it. Super73 RX and Grizzly both offer long seat. Also fat tires add to the comfort of your ride. Here, it is a tie as both e-bikes have great front and rear suspension. Also as Ariel Rider comes with dual battery, which means that you can still ride your e-bike even your battery is broken or has issues. Grizzly’s battery capacity is 1820Wh almost doubling Super73 RX’s value of 60Wh. So Super73 is easier to lift when compared to Grizzly.Īriel Rider’s Grizzly has a 52V system which provides both longer range and higher top speed. Especially compared to the Grizzly with larger tubes and fork, which obviously contribute to capability of e-bike but also add to the weight of the e-bike. Let’s talk about weight: To be honest, having single motor and single battery, Super73 is a more portable e-bike. Ariel Rider shines on uphill as I was able to climb on 28-30 mph on throttle only thanks to dual motor configuration. On flat surface it allows to make 38 mph on throttle, while Super73 lets you to go up until 32 mph. Let’s say Super73 has a more refined look.īy means of motor, Ariel Rider is more powerful with its dual motors of 1000W power. Ariel Rider’s Grizlly has more of an off-road and industrial look, that’s why I would prefer the look of Super73 which resembles a motorbike. It looks like it’ll be a though one, let’s see who will be the winner.įirst, let’s compare looks. Today I’ll be comparing two of the most powerful street legal e-bikes: Super73 RX and Ariel Rider’s Grizzly.
